Younger Toyota

Six months ago the Electrochemical Society (ECS) and the Toyota Research Institute of North America (TRINA) kicked off the initial ECS Toyota Young Investigator Fellowship. Over 100 young scholars and professors began looking into new and exciting electrochemical research in the field of green energy technology with hopes of being selected for the Fellowship. On July 15th, three recipients were selected to receive $50,000 each for their projects. The three professors selected were Professor Patrick Cappillino of University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Professor Yogesh (Yogi) Surendranath of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Professor David Go of University of Notre Dame.

“The science of electrochemistry can help provide solutions for daunting challenges, like the need to transition to a less carbon-intensive economy,” says ECS Executive Director Roque Calvo. “ECS was thrilled to partner with Toyota on this program and congratulates our three inaugural fellows.”

ECS Toyota Young Investigator Fellowship looks to push both professors and scholars into research that can advance alternative fuel technology for a new generation of vehicles. Each of the selected individuals will be awarded restricted grants of $50,000 in order to pursue their research in their respective proposals. They’ll also be rewarded with a one-year ECS membership and the added chance to present and/or publish their findings with the Electrochemical Society.
