Have you ever wondered the history behind a car brand? Or maybe you’ve wondered if the brand has any quirky traits that would make you think “hmm, I want a Toyota.” Well, then you are in luck. This week I have some fun facts about the Toyota brand that you may or may not have known.

So, sit back, relax, and let’s go!

  • Toyota was first spelled with a D. “Toyoda” was changed when the companies goals for expansion and exporting vehicles to the U.S. took off. The company needed an emblem that would work in both Japanese and English. After a company-wide competition, Toyota was the popular choice because of its association with number eight which stands for luck in Japan.

  • Beating out its competitors, Toyota is the leading green brand globally. Toyota cares about the environment and it is no secret. With some fierce competition, Toyota has managed to make its way to the top with sustainable features and green performance.

  • The car company holds the highest number of patents globally. With over 1,000 patents, Toyota is always innovating and we are sure to see more of this in the future!

  • By 2020, Toyota is hoping to have driverless vehicles on the road. The company has invested a pretty penny into self-driving car technology and continues to pave the road to innovation.

  • By May of 2016, Toyota has sold over 9 million hybrid cars. Wowza!

  • The Toyota Corolla is about 52 years old. Introduced in Japan in 1966, the first Corolla came to America in 1968 and has been deemed the best-selling car in the world. With over 40 million Corollas sold, the world has seen 11 different generations so, I guess one thing is for sure – the people love Corollas.
